Guest guest
I used to make oat milk all the time. I *think* the ratio was 4 cups water to 1 cup dry oats (any kind). Blend until creamy. Strain, if desired. I liked the thicker texture of not bothering. Store in glass mason jar in fridge and consume within three days, lest it get " slimy " . -Erin http://www.zenpawn.com/vegblog p.s. - Maybe a touch of vanilla and/or cinnamon to flavor. - Kim Tuesday, February 12, 2008 7:52 PM Re: Re: The Truth About Unfermented Soy and Its Harmful Effects Has anyone tried and even made oat milk or other grain milks? I love soy and rice milk. I'd like more variety, though. Thanks! Kim

Yep. I've been making various " milks " for years, and it's always (for me, anyway), 1 cup of " stuff " (stuff = raw nuts, raw oats, cooked grains, raw bananas, cooked beans) and 4 cups of water. > Blend until creamy. Strain, if > desired. I liked the thicker texture of not bothering. Same here, especially with cashew milk. Yum. > Store in > glass mason jar in fridge and consume within three days, lest it get > " slimy " . :-) The only exception to that for my " milk " recipes is banana milk, which needs to be used right away. Guest guest
Oh dear. I hope I did not make anyone upset with my comment! I go between the radiant step one and this group. I looked over the messages and realized some of you on here do eat meat. I am glad you are here to learn more about living vegetarian, the animals thank you for it! I am here to read and learn about veg choices others have made on this program, because in the books (I just finished them all, whew!) and these groups, it seems most choices for protein are meat or dairy or eggs, and I want to stay away from animal products, and find good, healthy alternatives that still keep me on the program. Guest guest
HI Maria, I felt excited with I read your email about the oat milk. When I started making our oat milk, I was determined to keep at it until I found the recipe that worked. It's actually pretty easy to make, but my husband prefers the texture of soy milk, so now I make that. I looked at the nutritional information for Pacific oat milk online and found that it has 19 grams of sugars while homemade has only about 5. I'm wondering if the extra sugars/carbs are in the thickeners they use since I didn't see anything like looked like a sugar. George's Original has the vitamins and complex carb (oatmeal) in it. It makes breakfast easy since everything is there. However it is made with soy and so not good for children. Restore is plain whey powder. It can be " dolled " up in lots of ways or it can " doll " up a dish to add extra protein. Just remember to take a multi vitamin if you use it for your shake. I really like the " flavor " of George's original and so does my husband. I " " flavor because it's rather on the neutral side-not icky, not sweet. I would mix and drink it plain. Hubby likes to play with vanilla, pineapple, orange, etc. I wanted a no brainer for breakfast. Hope that is helpful, Gina in IN > > > > > In a message dated 3/4/2010 11:13:23 A.M. Guest guest
> > Hi Maria, I was vegetarian until my mom moved in. She's an ardent meat eater, so is my now husband. Our compromise is that at least 95% of the meat must come from the farmer's market. That way I know the farmers, how the animals were raised, etc. They are being slowly transitioned to a vegetarian and sometimes vegan diet. It's okay with Paolo. As long as it's not peppermint tea and the food doesn't have rhubarb in it, he doesn't see what there is to complain about. That's just one of the reasons I married him. Guest guest
Thank you Gina, I need to find a protein powder for my children and I to have together. I can't imagine doing 2 shakes one after the other. LOL! Maria In a message dated 3/4/2010 3:27:39 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, virginia writes: HI Maria, I felt excited with I read your email about the oat milk. I just picked up the new one by Alicia Silverstone and got some great ideas for one dish meals...but I'd have to have a shake on the side because not enough protein in any entree for me...but that's ok, it is just nice to get inspiration. Guest guest
Hi Rick, I went into this thread and saw your original inquiry. Somehow I missed it! When I make oat milk, I use a soy milk make which I purchased through the Radiant Store. The oat groats get soaked overnight. Then they go through three grind only rounds (no heat). You could do the same thing with a blender and just strain the pulp. The pulp is then great to cook a bit and eat for breakfast. I had tried a couple of recipes from the internet and this is what I like best. Let me know what your experiments produce-might just like that one better.
