Mel,

Yes, I completely understand the reasoning behind her steps. I am looking

for healing as well. But I just wonder how I can keep putting things into

my body when I am so aware of the harm it is doing. I am going to strive

to do the steps in order, I just know it is going to be quite a journey.

The program is the program because of the steps!

Lots of other programs [ & diets] say *take sugar out*.

Doing so plunges us into deep shock, and is generally unsustainable

anyway.

The work Kathleen does and publishes is all about healing, and for me it

has meant a new life. Do you see the difference?

Hi there,

This message made me think. I am working hard on step one, but it is

very

difficult to not want to quit sugar and bread etc. all at once. I have

read all of Kathleen's books now, and can't imagine putting those things

in

my body any longer! How can we continue to do that once we have read

the

material and know what it does to our bodies and minds? (and families!!)

I appreciate any feedback....I

Thank you so much,

Maria

Diane,

A couple of thoughts for you. First, I'd really recommend waiting on the

diet coke. It really is easier once we've got steady on the food with

steps

1-5 under us. I know some folks leave diet coke for very last. I found

that I wanted it less and less on step 3 and it just gradually went away.

Others plan a specific detox for it.

You know, somehow the more we focus on the food, the more those other

issues

seem to smooth out. It's sort of like magic. I wanted to explore all sorts

of other issues, but I found that just distracted me from my steps and my

healing. I've found that Radiant Recovery has taught me a whole different

way of being in the world. We try to really focus on breakfast on this

list, but you could certainly ask for ideas in how to handle questions

about

weight and what you are eating on the forum or YLD (if you are a member).

Shake, bacon, brown, and diet coke sounds like the ideal breakfast for you

for tomorrow. What will you have for your brown do you think? We've been

experimenting with muffins a lot lately and last night with dinner we had

skin-on hash browns. I was sad there weren't leftovers as they'd have made

a great breakfast brown.

[radiantstepone] The hormone fandango and resistance from family

This week has been tough for me - my mood is MUCH worse due to PMS and I

feel so lethargic. I'm back to crawling out of bed, feeling like I have a

dead weight of dread in my stomach and I've started having white carbs

for

b/fast and craving and having Diet Coke. :( I know we're not supposed to

do

anything but breakfast in step one, but I'd really like to wean myself off

that Coke. But the cravings are dreadful! I went a month without it last

year but then came back to it big time.

Also, last night my mum (the only person who knows I'm doing RR apart from

you guys) laid into me about eating too much fat and protein and sweet

things and how I need to lose weight... She's a very supportive person

normally but won't take in anything I tell her about how starvation diets

only make people crave more, about how balancing my mood will help me get

everything else in check (she thinks it will take too long doing PNP) etc

etc. We ended up screaming at each other and I collapsed in tears.

I realised later that actually, I'm 31 and it's OK if she doesn't

understand. But it's very hard for me to go things alone without anyone's

approval. I know we focus on the food here, but GOSH that really isn't all

that we learn about, is it?

Anyway, just needed to blab to people who hopefully understand.

I'm going to to bed a bit earlier tonight, and will have a small shake,

some

(British) bacon and a BROWN tomorrow. Will probably also have Diet Coke.

Baby steps.

Janine,

Thank you, I am super motivated for healing as well as a little trimming

(I need to lose 20 pounds or so to be in a healthy weight range) I never

want to feel crazy or high again. I want a nice boring simple life, with no

major ups and downs from sugar. So I am willing to do anything, I am

going to do these steps in order, it is very hard and challenging I'm

take her time with step one.

All I can suggest is try out the step one as suggested in RR and see

how that goes. It is not as though you *have* to have sugar and

refined carbohydrates at each meal...it is just a mind set of having

the priority be one thing at a time, first things first and focusing

on the first step so that it truly sinks in and lays the foundation

take on it.

What did you have for breakfast today? Shake?

The key is to focus on the Step you are on, not on sugar.

Give it your all.

Give sugar no energy.

What are you finding hard about it?

Your life may well be simpler once you have done the steps, but boring?  No, it

doesn't have to be boring any more than it has to be hard.

You sound as if you have the sense of giving something up.

On the other hand, if you come to the program with a willing heart, prepared to

do whatever it takes, you will certainly find recovery.

Hi Maria,

I think the issue is to be *kind* to your body. Doing a detox cold turkey is

pretty much a shock <smile>

I love this, Mel, switching the focus from sugar to the step was exactly what

moved me forward in recovery. I just hadn't put my finger on it before.

Mel,

Yes, I completely understand the reasoning behind her steps. I am looking

for healing as well. But I just wonder how I can keep putting things into

my body when I am so aware of the harm it is doing. I am going to strive

to do the steps in order, I just know it is going to be quite a journey.

Shake, bacon, brown, and diet coke sounds like the ideal breakfast for you

Baby steps.

Baby steps.
