Hi everyone -

this stuff is amazing! I've made vegan banana/vanilla (and just plain vanilla!) "ice cream" with this stuff in my ice cream maker and just in the freezer (stirring every few hours or so - it comes out REALLY creamy), whipped potatoes, fruit smoothies, put it in coffee, made incredible baked goods and "cream" soups - you name it! Not only is it thick and creamy to cook with, it is absolutely DELICIOUS just simply for drinking and you can get it almost anywhere! Most 'regular' supermarkets carry it now - it's in boxes on the shelves usu. in the natural foods area and there is also a cold version in the 'dairy' case that many stores are starting to carry... there is also an 'unsweetened' version, enriched, vanilla, carob, etc.- FABULOUS stuff!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the BEST vegan product finds EVER, along with the Willow Run soy margarine!!!!!!!!

Sheri, thanks for the info. I've been using Silk on my

morning cereal and in chai, for which it is very good,

but I haven't found it a good substitute for cream.

I just tried MoriNu's Creamy Tomato Soup, and found it

really good. They also make a Creamy Celery, which I'm

trying next. Comes in aseptic packages.

Don't know how these would hold up to crock pot

cooking, but I suspect it would be worth trying.

Hi Sandra...

Silk has been 'rumored' in the past to have used some form of dairy in it's

composition... there was a really big hubbub about this on all the animal

rights lists and since then I've stayed away from Silk....

It's Vitasoy all the way for me!

If I remember correctly, Silk is bottled with (and, I

think, owned by) a dairy company and at one point,

some Silk products in Canada were recalled because

they had been contaminated with milk products. Silk

doesn't ordinarily contain any form of dairy products

in its products.

if you go to www.whitewave.com they explain how they process their soymilk

to my knowledge they are not owned by a dairy company.....a dairy company does

own shares in white wave...but they can't control that.

i think that this was only to do with the Chocolate flavor of Silk.

which i used to love but the last couple of times i had it, it tasted

really nasty to me. i do still use regular Silk, though. however,

all this talk about the Vitasoy has got me curious! i'm definitely

going to try it! thanks!!!! :)
