I'm not new to veganism (12 years vegan), but don't know anything

about crockpot cooking. Can anyone tell me please what the advantages

are and how you do it?

Hi. I am relatively new to veganism, but not new to crockpot use.

The basic concept is to throw stuff into the cooker and let it do

it's thing without having to fuss over it all day. I love making

split pea soup the most. And it only takes about 2 or 3 hours!

Have fun with it!

Okay, I understand the not having to fuss over it advantage.

However, I own a pressure cooker and can make split pea soup in half an hour.

So, please tell me the advantage of the crockpot over a pressure cooker.

How to cook with a crockpot is follow the recipes

you like from these archives. Very, very easy.

One great advantage to me is preparing a meal the

night before or in the morning to enjoy at

dinnertime.

Another advantage is that once you start the

crockpot, also known as a slow cooker, you don't

tend to it much. Like you wouldn't leave the

stove or oven on if you are leaving your home for

awhile, but you can do that safely with a

crockpot.

It's very nice to put your dinner in the crockpot

in the morning and have it ready and waiting for

you when you get home from work 8-10 hours later.

That's a tough one since I use my pressure cooker a lot too. I

think the main difference is that of not having to keep an eye on

it as it cooks. I love my pressure cooker for beans and such, but

must admit to a touch of fear that it would explode (due to

parental warnings). Other than that, I couldn't say.

The nice thing, imo, about a pressure cooker is that the ingredients cook so

quickly that they keep individual flavors. In something like vegetable soup

or stew, for example, the carrots taste like carrots, the potatoes like

potatoes, etc. If you use a crock pot, it all tastes the same by the time

it's done.

The nice thing, imo, about a crock pot is that the ingredients all cook so

slowly that the flavors totally blend together. For example, in chili, you

have a complex blend of flavors, not just beans, tomatoes, and spices.

I suppose the answer is that they're both great tools but neither is all

purpose.
