I experiment with pinto beans once a couple years

ago.

Cooked a small batch in my solar cooker, pressure

cooker, crockpot and stovetop.

I liked the flavor of the solar cooker and

crockpot best. Pressure cooker was a close

second. Stovetop was not nearly as tasty.

I am have a partially dislocated hip. Standing

to long is painful. So for me, I clean and chope

vegies one day. Toss in crockpot the following

morning for that night's dinner. Since I am

caring for my 21 month old son all day. It

really helps me a lot to to have dinner taking

care of itself.

Yes, I could do about the same with a pressure

cooker, then I also have to a little more to do.

Set a timer, natural release or fast release the

pressure. My dh works late so it also helps

that the cooker has his meal hot upon his

arrival.

I didn't know I would have to buy a new gasket

every 6-12 months at $5 each. I found out when I

read the instructions for my first pressure

cooked meal. When it shrunk and didn't seal

well, stopped using the pressure cooker. Never

got around to mail ordering a new gasket.

The manual said that the enzymes in the beans

would cause the rubber to harden or shrink, I

forgot which, anyway I used my pressure cooker

until the gasket shrunk to where it didn't seal

well enough. I think it was a little more than

12 months when that happenned.

I learned how to make and use a solar oven

shortly after I bought my pressure cooker so as I

used both for awhile now I just use my crockpot

and solar oven.

Where did you learn to make a solar oven? I have tried to find

books on that subject at the library, and I know they have tried

to order some, but most that we know about are out of print. I

would appreciate any info.

Thanks.
