Guest guest
Mark--Thanks for telling us about the recipes! I'd bookmarked your site a while back, and haven't fully explored it yet, but I will now! And--how can you tell when dry beans are stale? I really can't tell! Guest guest
Barb--I'm not referring to the links at the site, but at the actual website itself. ARE there recipes at the site? I did join that group, but haven't looked it over yet. But there's a place at the website that says [recipes] and you can't click on it, and I can't find any way to access it. Guest guest
1) at http://www.madcowboy.com I posted links to over 10,000 veg'n recipes accessible on the web. Go to the Home Page and you'll see the link on the right side of the screen 2) beans can go stale! 3) I don't always soak beans before cooking them in a crockpot. I've had great success in cooking a cup of beans (just about any variety) in four cups of water on LOW (the only setting) in a small crockette. Surprised me, but it works. Pinto or Anastasi with some chili powder, black beans, even chicpeas. I tend to cook a cup of beans every so often, then freeze them for quick additions to meals. 4) you could always do the ol' " boil the beans, then soak for an hour " trick, then use them in a crockpot (although I haven't done that... probably take 4 or more hours on LOW with other ingredients). Hope this helps! Best, Mark Madcowboy webmaster/editor
Guest guest
Mark--Maybe I'm a complete idiot, but I can't seem to access those recipes! There's a spot that SAYS recipes, but it doesn't let me click on it, and no matter what I try, I can't get there. Can you help? Guest guest
That happened to me before, until I realized that I have to be signed into before I had access to the links on the Groups page. Guest guest
Hi Mark, Sunday, February 15, 2004, 2:34:00 PM, you wrote: MS> 3) I don't always soak beans before cooking them in a crockpot. I am sure it works fine for cooking, but as a safety issue it is not so safe to put beans in the crockpot without soaking and boiling first. Here is a webpage mostly regarding kidney beans but read the safety instructions at the end - this should apply to all beans, as well as kidney beans: http://www.foodreference.com/html/artredkidneybeanpoisoning.html Love, Narayani
