Ok, since all the talk about beans....

I made a nice big thing of pinto beans recently. I soaked them

overnight, then put them on in the crock pot and cooked them all

day, all night, and by the next night, (8 or 9pm...) the beans STILL

were not cooked thoroughly. I ended up putting them in a pot and

boiling them for another 2-3 hours before they were fully cooked....

Was this because I had old beans? Should I have done something

else?

The instruction leaflet that came with my slow cooker (crockpot)

recommends boiling beans for 10 minutes before adding them to the slow

cooker so I always do that or use tinned organic beans.

I actually had the same problem with a batch of adzuki beans. The

only difference was that I tried the quick soak, boiling them for

awhile, soaking them for a few hours, and THEN cooking them for

several hours (just directly on the stove, not in my crockpot)and

while some of them cooked so well they fell apart, most did not cook.

They were pretty old beans, so I figure that was why. :(

Hmm....good to know...I bought them that day, so I didn't have them for too

long, but maybe the store had them for a considerable amount of time...

This happens to me sometimes too. I usually just take the lid off after I think

they are done and cook them until the excess water has evaporated. Otherwise

try using less water. I know, that sounds dumb, but I'm still trying to perfect

my recipe.
