Guest guest
I do this chili all the time! Very simple! 1 tbs olive oil 1 tbs of minced garlic 1 red bell pepper sliced 1 chili sliced 1/2 onion diced To Taste: cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper 2 carrots sliced 1 zucchini sliced 1 can each of black, pinto and kidney beans 1 can of tomato sauce 1 large can of stewed tomatoes 1/2 package of ground round original 1 tbs cocoa powder Sauté garlic, bell pepper, chili and onion in the olive oil in a large stock pot. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, cumin and chili powder. Add rest of ingredients. Stir to combine. (Add some water if thick, you want it to be pretty thin.) Transfer to a crock pot and cook on high for 7 or more hours. (You can also just put everything in the crock pot to begin with, and not worry about the sautéing.) Guest guest
I would assume that that 'ground round oringinal " would mean Yves (or another brand) veggie Ground round. jenni , eric <ericn613> wrote: > Except for the poor dead cow, it sounds great. > >
Guest guest
>1/2 package of ground round original In my stores ground round original is a meat along. Last I heard meat wasn’t sold by the “package” but by the pound. No need to be snippy about things you don’t understand. Guest guest
Normally names of products (ie. Boca, Yves Ground Round) are capitalized and a brand name supplied. I was confused as well and thought it was meat. I doubt we were the only two confused. What is a meat along? I think it better that the recipe was questioned and now we know it is a vegan recipe than we delete it thinking it was a meat based recipe, If indeed meat along is a vegan ingredient. Guest guest
I agree that it is better to question, but I think things can be questioned without attitude. I thought the “Except for the poor dead cow, it sounds great” comment was a bit rude. Guest guest
Just my 2 cents on the subject... When I see a recipe that calls for a meat or dairy item, I just substitute with a non-meat/dairy food to be able to try the recipe as vegan. I use meat based recipes all the time, just changing out what I don't eat. In this case, I assumed the writer meant Veggie Ground Round and never thought twice about it. I'm actually surprised the posted recipe with " meat " caused such an issue on this list.
