Guest guest
Yummy! Even better is make your own applesauce. No reason it couldn't be done in a crockpot. I use the stove, but if you covered it and put it in the pot for 4-6 hours. Just take: apples sweetner (if needed) cinnamon water Cut apples...peel if you want to, but it isn't necessary cover and cook to death until everything is mushy. Run through a food mill to remove seeds skins. It is like manna from heaven. Better than anything you've ever bought in a store. > > ~Jennifer Meyrose~ [jmeyrose] > Friday, February 16, 2001 1:34 PM > > crockpot apple butter > > > > Crockpot Apple Butter > > With a crockpot and a huge can of applesauce (from the warehouse > store) you > can make easy homemade apple butter very easily, without the constant > stirring. > > > > 8 cups applesauce > 4 cups sugar > 4 teaspoons cinnamon > 2 teaspoons allspice > 2 teaspoons nutmeg > 2 teaspoons cloves > > Stir all ingredients together well in a large bowl. Guest guest
I’ve a lot of apples from the orchard. This sounds like a good way to use the surplus, but can you tell an ignorant Dutch housewife what to do with the end product? Guest guest
You can use it instead of jam or jelly- on biscuits for example. Um, you can use it as an ice cream topper too. Or, I suppose you could put it as a sort of sauce over meat- like a pork roast maybe. :-) Molly On Tue, 2 Nov 2004 21:10:13 +0100, Pier's Pot <pierspot wrote: > > I've a lot of apples from the orchard. Guest guest
Sounds yummy, I think I’ll give it a try. Aren’t we supposed to loathe the use of meat? :-) But thanks for the explanation anyway. Guest guest
*blush* I am so sorry. I wasn't thinking about where I was posting. Yes. And I don't eat meat. I was just trying to think of as many uses as possible. I'm so embarrassed. Did I mention that I am new to not eating meat? Molly :-) On Tue, 2 Nov 2004 22:09:00 +0100, Pier's Pot <pierspot wrote: > > Sounds yummy, I think I'll give it a try. Guest guest
I thought you meant it tongue-in-cheek, so no offence here. And maybe it’s a good sauce for accompanying meat dishes made from seitan (vital gluten). Guest guest
Apple butter is good spread on bread or muffins. I imagine it would also be good on potato pancakes or in filled cookies. Guest guest
As someone who is *reducing* but not yet eliminating meat, I didn't mind being told a use of wholesome apple butter with meat as well as other uses. I wonder how apple butter would work with soy-protein sausage... hmmm... Calesta " Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.
