Guest guest
A lurker being heard from.... Hi: About baking potatoes. Actually, I never thought to bake a potatoes in a crock pot. I generally viewed the BP as a side item that was not a consideration when the " time " element was the reason to 'crock'. When it was not, tossing them in a oven always seemed to suffice. That though is not the reason I came out of seclusion. It was the comment I read about wrapping them an " Alzheimer foil " . In my kitchen, and many kitchens in the world, the use of aluminum is a definite no-no. In the USA , and I do not want to get into the reasons as this is a cooking group, as little about the risks from consuming aluminum for both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are little publicized. This includes cooking on (or in) aluminum, using products that allow you to absorb or ingest aluminum, i.e.: some underarm deodorants, many antacids, many brands of baking powder, many brands of aspirin, pots, pans, et. al. I am not asking you to stop ... well, yes I am strongly suggesting that you do ...... but what I am hoping is that those people who are 'secure' in their belief that " It can't happen to me " or " It's just those extremist 'organic' people talking " or some such rationalization to burry you head in the sand ..... Please, before you laugh this off ... you on your PC ... you would not be reading this if you were not ... well yea.. it could be a hard copy you kids printed off and gave you to read ... but ... do a search... see what you can find. Look for both sides. The companies who use aluminum that will say it's safe and the independent sites and their opinions. OK, enough on the baked potatoes for now. It isn`t actually a proven fact that consumption of aluminium causes Alzheimer`s Disease. The theory stems from the fact that post mortem on the brains of some Alzheimer`s sufferers have revealed elevated levels of aluminium. I am not saying, we shouldn`t be cautious of course, but I am saying, that if we listened to every single health scare that we would be afraid to get up in the morning, afraid to shampoo our hair, afraid to eat, drink, drive, etc etc. Best advice is not to cook in aluminium pans which are shiny on the inside. Please be careful to present all the facts also when posting to email groups as some people get really frightened over these health issues. The truth is, there is a chance that aluminium may have these effects, but nobody knows for sure. Caution is the key. Oh and I never wrap spuds when crocking them, I just prick them and throw them in Love, Narayani
Guest guest
Oh I am laughing, I knew someone from this group would say something about the aluminum foil. I was just waiting, lol. I hope you have nothing against parchment paper, because I love mine. Thanks for the info. Im wondering if you can do the same thing without the aluminum foil. WIth my potatoes, I just toss one or two in when I cook something else, then I keep it in the fridge if I dont eat it right away. I cant stand heating the oven up for just a couple potatoes. I wont say the other way I cook them (ZAP). Alyssia <deechun_sa_ngop wrote:A lurker being heard from.... Hi: About baking potatoes. Actually, I never thought to bake a potatoes in a crock pot.
