Guest guest
Hi Donna, This herb works wonders. Don't let anyone try to say it has a bad taste or it's dangerous or any of that. I spent a lot of time with the Mayan Indians of Yucatan, Mexico and they have used it for centuries in their staple diet of black beans and white rice. Feel free to write me on my email address. I'm in southern Calif and I will also try to see if there's a place for you to buy seeds, etc. I have used it for 20 yrs or more and it really works. I only have a small patio so I can't always keep it growing when needed and the konbu seems to work for me but I prefer the epazote. Once you get a little spring in your ground it will take off and grow fast into a hearty attractive bush....enjoy your day, it's pouring here. Guest guest
Donna, There are great pictures of epazote at: http://www.davidscooking.com/ingredients/epazote/epazote.html Most people I've spoken with about this herb say that it has a pungent taste somewhat like raw licorice or fennel. I've never tried it, so I don't know. What I have read, though says that it is not poisonous UNLESS it is used in large doses. Of course that is the case with many different herbs that we use on a daily basis, too. Anyway, FWIW. God's Peace, Gayle Donna Faith K-Brooks <thnkfree wrote: > > > > Epazote sounds wonderful! Guest guest
Donna, From everything I've read, it says that in LARGE doses, epazote is poisonous. A Naturopath I know says the same thing. I've also read this in several different sources, so I tend to go along with that. What it doesn't say is what comprises a large dose. The people I know who have used it also told me what they thought it tasted like. But, our taste buds are all different. One person can taste potatoes and think they taste one way and another taste the same potatoes and think they taste another. I think you may be talking about how it tastes in foods. They were saying how it tastes raw, as I wrote in my last e-mail. God's Peace, Gayle - " Donna " <starwoman123 Saturday, February 19, 2005 8:24 PM Re: epazote cuts gas in beans.. Hi Donna .
