Guest guest
One of my favorite sandwiches " pre-vegan " was PB and honey. I haven't had one of those sandwiches in 33 years now. Yes, I got over missing them but felt like I was in heaven a little while ago when I had a PB and " Just Like Honey " sandwich. Just Like Honey Rice Nectar is made by a company called Suzanne's Specialties. I got a jar of it from Pangea. It's made from brown rice syrup, chicory syrup, maple syrup, and natural flavors (vegan). I have to tell you, it's wonderful! Tastes so much like I remember honey tasting. Granted my memory is probably a bit rusty in that department, but my mom, who also loves PB and honey sandwiches and eats them frequently had some and didn't know it wasn't honey. Anyway, I was just so thrilled to have something taste so close to honey with the same viscosity that I had to pass it on. Guest guest
What a good tip! I am pretty sure I saw a jar of that on the shelves at one of my hfs last month. Good to know it's really really good! How'd it be for cooking, do you think? Thanks! Pat > felt like I was in heaven a little while ago when I had a PB and " Just Like Honey " sandwich. Guest guest
wow, cool! I've been using Agave Nectar instead of honey...I'll have to keep an eye out for that stuff! cherrie - <quintmom <Undisclosed-Recipient:;> Friday, March 18, 2005 2:45 PM Just Like Honey > > One of my favorite sandwiches " pre-vegan " was PB and honey. Guest guest
You could also go to your local health food store and look for Agave Nectar. It looks & tastes very much like honey, just a bit thinner. I was thrilled to find it because I missed my homemade honey mustard dip (Veganaise, agave nectar & brown mustard). Guest guest
I tried Agave Nectar earlier this week after someone else told me about it. It is good and I will use it in many things, but it doesn't do the same for me as Just Like Honey Rice Nectar does. I think because I liked how honey seeped into the bread and made it a bit crunchy and the Just Like Honey does the same thing. Agave Nectar didn't. I also like that the Just like Honey has the same viscosity as honey. I'm definitely glad I found the Agave Nectar too. Gee, how lucky I've gotten in the past week to have found two products that will be such great additions to my recipe base! Guest guest
Not a clue, Tammy but it does. Seems like it should make it mushy but it doesn't. My daughter tried her first PB and " honey " sandwich today and wouldn't eat it because she said the bread was crunchy. Ah well, I guess not everyone is the same in their likes and dislikes (thank goodness!). God's Peace, Gayle - KittyToo Saturday, March 19, 2005 11:35 AM Re: Just Like Honey Ah, ok. Guest guest
Wow! I never had PB & honey sandwiches before so had no idea of that phenomenon. Will have to try it once I buy some of the Just Like Honey. You've got my curiosity/interest up! You don't toast it or anything? Just plain bread, PB spread on one side, JLH on the other? Guest guest
No toasting. I always put the JLH on the bread first so that it can soak into the bread while I spread the PB on the other slice. Hope you like it. God's Peace, Gayle - KittyToo Saturday, March 19, 2005 5:26 PM Re: Just Like Honey Wow! I never had PB & honey sandwiches before so had no idea of that phenomenon. Guest guest
By the way, I also found another source for JLH, for our members in the Portland area and you can also order online: www.foodfightgrocery.com Cherrie , <quintmom@n...> wrote: > No toasting. Guest guest
I just called Suzanne's Specialties and spoke with Suzanne. I wanted to know if JLH was sold anywhere in the area I live in. Sadly, it's not BUT, I did get to order a large 11.5 lb container of the JLH for $28.00. I told her that I baked with it (I definitely do) and she gave me the baker's price. She's also sending me a Suzanne's jute tote bag and catalog along with some brochures to give to the stores around here in an effort to get them to start carrying her products. If any of them do, she'll give me a discount on my next order with her. BTW, she ships UPS 3rd day ground and does not add handling charges. Only the amount charged by UPS. Just thought I'd send this along in case any of you who try JLH and like it want to order any of it in a larger size than the 1 lb jar Pangea sells.
