In the past, I've discussed the matter directly with three veg'n cookbook authors, and they acknowledge that the " formula " or " ingredients " are not copyrightable. The description of putting it all together and the collection itself, are. Personally, I think it's only fair to include the book/author. They work hard. Too many websites/lists rip them off by at least not giving them credit. I've often purchased books based upon reading one or two recipes that were credited. " U.S. Copyright law [....] [L]istings of ingredients as in recipes, formulas, compounds or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection " (from a PDF linked at: /links/Copyright_00110736962 8/ AND for recipes (which initiated the copyright issue): has some great categories of recipes... some are empty, some are quite full (hmmm... I'll have to post one of my vegan crockpot chowda recipes again.... " Chowders " is empty.... (you have to be a group member to access them).
