Guest guest
i have been trying to make oatmeal in the crockpot without getting it right. i have two crockpots, both rival, one is 1.5 and one is 4 quarts. the big one is to big for the small amount i want to make, but the small one keeps burning it. the problem is that there is no low/high setting. you just plug it in and go from there. i was thinking maybe this is the problem? there is no way to tell if this is the high or low setting, and cooking oatmeal on high for 8 hours doesn't sound like too good of an idea. does anyone have this type of crockpot and know if this is the case? i got it used so i don't have any instructions. karyn Photos Ring in the New Year with Photo Calendars. Guest guest
I have a great crockpot oatmeal recipe but I have to go get it. I had a really old crockpot (in 1970s orange) and always made mine overnight. If no one else solves your problem, I'll find my recipe. Guest guest
Oatmeal is very tricky in the crock pot. The " trick " to keep it from burning is to make your crock pot into a double boiler. Use a can or heat resistant jar (one that will fit in your crock pot and leave space around the sides and is not too tall when the lid is on0. Add your oatmeal ingredients to the smaller jar and place it in the crock. Next add water to the crock so that the smaller jar is surrounded by water -about halfway up the sides of the jar. Set the crock for low and cook away. Good luck. It has worked for me. You have to experiment with thte cooking times for your crock.
