Guest guest
Is brewer's yeast the same as nutritional yeast? I asked my Mom to pick some up for me and she said they only had brewer's yeast and the guy told her that it wasn't the right stuf that Brewer's yeast is a " diet thing " . Strange. I know some people say it's the same thing and some say it's not. Would anyone care to clarify it for me? Thanks! Guest guest
> Is brewer's yeast the same as nutritional yeast? A resounding NO! Brewer's yeast is bitter and used to make beer, whereas nutritional yeast is grown on a different medium and tastes mildly cheesy. > I know some people say it's the same thing and some say it's not. Way back in one of the early McDougall cookbooks, Mary McDougall used to write brewer's yeast when she meant nutritional yeast, and I noticed back in the 1970's, cookbook authors did the same. At least *now* people who work in HFS's know the difference and rarely even carry brewer's yeast any more, at least around here. Sue in NJ who ruined a giant pot of stew back in 1975 by adding a half cup of brewer's yeast

Guest guest
They're different. I'm not really sure how, except that brewer's yeast supposedly tastes bitter. I found you a link that explains it way better than me: http://www.vegsource.com/talk/recipes/messages/99303.html Make sure you get the right thing! I haven't ever mixed them up, but Brewer's yeast doesn't sound the least bit yummy... Karyn Diana <laurelai3 wrote: Is brewer's yeast the same as nutritional yeast? Guest guest
Brewers yeast is sold in Health food stores and used here in the UK as a nutritional supplement (my cats love it) but you wouldn't want to cook with it.
