Guest guest
Hi All, I have a huge request to make of you. I am going through an incredibly vicious and contentious divorce right now. My not soon enough ex-husband is fighting for custody of our children because he doesn't want to pay child support. He is fighting the fact that our children (10 year old quintuplets) are being raised vegan. We have gone to court twice and mediation once and his lawyer always brings up the fact that our children have been raised vegan which is detrimental to their health, can't have " yummy " things to eat, and the most recent, are failure to thrive. My children's father likes to feed our children things laden with fat, chemicals, etc... - everything we have not fed them over the last 10 years. He agreed to raising any children we had vegan before I ever became pregnant - before we ever got married, in fact. Our children have always been vegan - since conception. Everyone on this list knows that there are plenty of yummy things to eat on a vegan diet; that's easy to disprove. The failure to thrive is easy to disprove also since my children's pediatrician is more than happy with their growth. What I have to do now is come up with documentation that a vegan diet is a good diet and sanctioned by different organizations. I have much from Dr. Reed Mangels, Ph.D., R.D. which is what I have pretty much gone on since the birth of my children and I might add, has never steered me wrong. I have the position paper from the American Dietetic Association. I can get the stuff from Veg Family, VRG, PCRM, and all the other obviously pro-veg*n organizations. What I'm wanting now are studies, papers, etc... from mainstream organizations that aren't veg*n so that I can show support in that area also. If any of you have or know of anything like this, would you please let me know? My children's father will stop at nothing to wipe out all traces of me from our children - that includes their vegan way of life (he even tries to reform their personalities when he has them to wipe out any teachings or characteristics that come fro me). He has gone so far as to try to get their bodies used to dairy, etc... by feeding them foods with hidden dairy in them when they are at his house. The result? Every time they come home from his house, they have stomach aches. Please, anything any of you may be aware of or have, let me know. You can send it off list if you would like to: dilemma5 Thanx in advance. God's Peace, Gayle dilemma5 EarthLink Revolves Around You.

Guest guest
Gayle, I am so sorry you are going through this. I would suggest getting in touch with Dina Aronson, a vegan RD and the resident RD on vegfamily.com. You can email her through this link: http://www.vegfamily.com/dietician/index.htm She is so knowledgeable and she may have information that can help you. Best of luck, Amy On Apr 11, 2007, at 3:17 PM, dilemma5 wrote: > Hi All, > I have a huge request to make of you. I am going through an > incredibly vicious and contentious divorce right now. Guest guest
I'd also join this vegan parenting list and see what people there might say. Guest guest
Gayle, I too am so sorry that you are going through this. I don't know where you live in the country, but if you could get in touch with a Seventh-Day Adventist church in your area, I'm sure you could find some medical experts who would be happy to support a vegan diet for children. There are many Adventist hospitals in this country, esp. in California, and lots of study on vegetarianism in a large group of people--the adventists. Most are vegetarian, many are even vegan. But they will have more mainstream medical information to share, as well. Studies done. You might want to contact Loma Linda Hospital in CA (land of the first heart transplants, if I remember correctly) for more information. Further, have you tried emailing Dr. McDougall? Someone from his group might be able to help you as well. He would also be able to share which medical journals would have information supporting the vegan lifestyle. Anyway, those are the ideas I've got. I hope they help!!! I'm sure if you start digging deeply that you can find TONS of wonderful medical articles. You can also look in your library and do research into articles available--if you're near a university library and can get into research through RILM or another periodical online catalog, that could help as well. Yeah, some JAMA or other articles could help you. Have a wonderful day and keep strong, Julie
Guest guest
Get a copy of the November 2005 National Geographic magazine. On the front cover is featured an article " The Secrets of Living Longer " , which talks about a study that was done on vegetarians and that they live longer than the general population. Good luck with your dilemma. I sympathize with you because I have gone through a similar divorce, and even tho I have custody of my son, and have raised him vegetarian, when he visits his dad 6 weeks in the summer, he undoes everything I have taught him and pushes meat, etc. on him, and now has a taste for it.
