Guest guest
Hi Sue/Lucy, Welcome to the group! Tell us a bit about yourselves...how long have you been vegan? are you vegan for the usual animal cruelty type reasons? whereabouts are you from? We are arranging a meal in London in November (and hopefully somewhere outside London soon) at a great vegan restaurant call Veg Veg in South Kensington. Hope you can come! Guest guest
Hello Hayley! Thanks very much for replying! I was beginning to think my arrival went unnoticed!! >how long have you been vegan? Just over 1 year now and I'm loving it!!! Although I could do without all the stick that I get. >are you vegan for the usual animal cruelty type reasons? Yep, afraid so!! >whereabouts are you from? I live in Newport, South Wales. > We are arranging a meal in London in November (and hopefully > somewhere outside London soon) at a great vegan restaurant call Veg > Veg in South Kensington. Hope you can come! I would love to but I'm not sure if I could make it to London! Well, hope to hear from you all soon, Love Sue.
Guest guest
Hi Hayley, I've been vegan for four years now and yes animal welfare was my motivation. After becoming vegan I learned a great deal about the health side of things and converted my children from a lacto-veg diet to a vegan one (husband followed a couple of years later). We live in North Scotland so the meal in London would be a bit hard We do venture South now and again though...so you never know, we may meet you all one day! I'm so jealous of you living near exclusively vegan restaurants! Lucy http://www.veganfamily.co.uk
Guest guest
Lucy, Great to hear that your whole family is vegan!! What sort of reaction do you get from other parents about having children on a vegan diet? Do you find they are critical? Yeah, its great living near both London and Brighton!! Lots of lovely vegan food everywhere! How do you find being vegan in Scotland? Do you have access to all the vegan products we get down here? Do you know any other vegans or just your family? Btw would you like me to set up a link to your website from the egroup site? take care, Hayley vegan-network , " lucyburnett " <lucyb@u...> wrote: > Hi Hayley, > > I've been vegan for four years now and yes animal welfare was my motivation. Guest guest
Hi Sue, Sorry that we took a little time to respond to your message. we originally had a mailing list that went to everyone's inboxes, but we've recently moved over to this egroup site and I'm not sure everyone's used to it yet! I know what you mean about getting stick for being vegan! I find either people give you grief or make jokes about loving meat, or they are actually quite curious. Obviously I prefer the latter reaction!! Actually, I managed to come up with an answer to 'why are you vegan?' which left everyone silent and, apparently, thinking!! All I said was, " I think the treatment of animals in the meat industry is horrific and I don't want to be a part of it. " They couldn't say that animals are treated ok because they're not and if they said they were ok with it, they would look like an idiot! What's it like being vegan in Wales? Do you have any vegan restaurants there? I've never been to Wales but I picture it as being very green and peaceful!! take care, Hayley vegan-network , suzy.grayson@n... wrote: > Hello Hayley! > > Thanks very much for replying! Guest guest
Hi Hayley, We are really lucky that there is another vegan family living in the same village as us - they have a son the same age as our son too so they're in the same class at school. So we don't feel too isolated. I haven't experienced critisism from other parents - though some people may think we are a bit strange not letting our kids go to McDonalds etc. My mum ,dad and brother are all vegan now too. I think health food shops here stock much the same as down south - they are just spread more thinly. Our nearest is 30 miles away. Restaurants are what we really miss up here - Glasgow has a few but that is a long way! a link to our site would be great thanks Lucy
Guest guest
Hi Hayley. Keeping on the getting grief subject, one question that I've been asked by a few people in college, as we've just gone back recently is: 'Are you still vegan?' I find this quite offensive, as it is a commitment for life but people seem to think it's a phase I'm going through! When I was veggie, my mum kept asking me if I was still veggie as she thought it was a phase, even after 5 years!!!! Something that somebody told me to reply with to the above question is: 'Do you still eat animals?' > What's it like being vegan in Wales? Do you have any vegan > restaurants there? I've never been to Wales but I picture it as > being very green and peaceful!! It's really easy being a vegan as there lots of health-food stores, the inevitable Holland and Barretts and most of the supermarkets do lots of vegan stuff. I have a lot of vegan friends in Newport/Cardiff who have given me lots of help and support which I have found invaluable. I don't think that there are any completely vegan restaurants in Wales, but there is a good veggie/vegan one in Penarth called Tomlins. My sister took me there recently and the food was delish, even she said so and she loves her meat!!! I wouldn't recommend living in South Wales as it's quite industrial and the people aren't too friendly. However, I went to Snowdonia recently for the 'EarthFirst!' environmental gathering and it was amazing. It was so beautiful and the air was really clean and I noticed a strange phenomenon in North Wales- lots of health-food stores!!! Well, hope to hear from you all soon, Love Sue. I hope you chide those 'passing' fishermen and deer hunters. The far north sounds like a quiet but beautiful place, are you up there to avoid some of the distractions of the city? Why did you decide to become vegan? It must have been difficult, especially from a farming family! I didn't have the willpower to stay vegan aged 15. It is good to know other vegans, it helps. Staying vegan for four years without knowing any other vegans... I have lots of respect for you! I hope you get what you want form the list. Guest guest
welcome angel!! 1.) Age: 18 too 2.) Where do you live?: near Seattle, Wa 3.) How Long have you been a vegan?: just over 10 months (my 1 yr is coming up! hehe) 4.) What is your favorite vegan meal?: hmmm.. lately Ive been on a soydog kick, but I really love this pasta salad my friend makes, so Id probably say that. With a nice, cold pepsi. lol 5.) What is your favorite vegan brand? (food or commercial): I love litelife products, they are always good, and of course Amy's is awesome, (except it has milk in some), and rice dream is amazingly good. I use a lot of Toms of Maine stuff, and and my hair products are all Giovanni. 6.) For what reasons did you become vegan? Initially I became interested in vegetarianism when I first learned about all the chemicals and hormones in meat, and the effect is has on humans, but then I started researching it, and learned about the absolute horredus (sp?) treatment of the animals, and of course the effects on the environment, and I of course knew veganism was the only way to go. I went vegan the day after I became vegetarian. I am curious to see what everyone has to say! Guest guest
Hi Terri , Well done on becoming aware and acting on it so young I became aware at 7 but didn’t have the guts to argue with my mum ,so had to wait till I was 18 to go vegan overnight . Mind you this was in the days before soya milk ,and it was back to basics . No burgers then either (early 60s) Never been to Norwich. I live in Nottingham which has a brilliant veggie fast food café and most of the stuff is vegan. Is there not an AR group in Norwich ? 3/ Do you know many vegans in real life? No!! 4/ How long have you been a vegan, and how long vegetarian before that? Vegan for 13 years, and Vegetarian for 8 years before that 6/ Whereabouts do you live? Norwich, East Anglia 7/ How good a place is it for vegans? Not bad, a few shops/cafes that are vegan friendly .. --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
