Guest guest
pork fat is lard.. many things are made with lard.. not only in chinatown. Refried beans are always with lard unless otherwise specified, McD's fries and anything else fried are in lard. NY fries are also lard, and burger king too. 'm pretty sure Licks and Harveys are in plant oil though. -Belle ____ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Hello, To me lard is like some kind of freaky relic from the past that conjures up images in my mind of those ads with cheery-faced housewives from the 50's. I always ask and I have never encountered anything but plant-based oils in non-veg restaurants. Sometimes things have animal broth, but never lard. The only products I've seen with animal-fat as an ingredient are some soups, like Knorr Soups, but that's because I mostly shop at health food stores and I never eat at fast-food restaurants. I did read that Burger King uses vegetable oil http://www.veg.on.ca/noframes/facts/healthy.htm My guess would have been that in these " health conscious " times, vegetable shortening or margarine, even butter, are used more often than lard, especially in desserts. The reason I brought up the cookies is that they contained actual pork meat, not just fat, which we we never would have expected, and so I prefer to go to my favourite Buddhist restaurants and not worry about it. I did not in any way mean to single out Chinese. After all, my British family and I used to eat " scrumpies " ... baked pork fat chips. -anji > pork fat is lard.. many things are made with lard.. not only in chinatown. > Refried beans are always with lard unless otherwise specified, McD's fries > and anything else fried are in lard.
