Guest guest
Hi Katie, I recommend checking out the PCRM website http://www.pcrm.org/health/VSK/starterkit.html The info on the New 4 Food Groups is straightforward and may make meal planning easier for you http://www.pcrm.org/health/VSK/VSK9.html They have some pretty good recipes there too, a new one every week, http://www.pcrm.org/health/Recipes/recipeoftheweek.html For recipes you can start here http://www3.sympatico.ca/anji/recipes.html I like Veggies Unite http://www.vegweb.com/frames/index/ It's easy to navigate and it has everything. Tips on stocking a vegan kitchen may help you as well http://www.vegan.com/resources/tips/pantry.htm For serious, reliable advice regarding being sick I recommend emailing Virginia (aka:Ginny) Messina (who is a registered dietitian with a masters in public health nutrition from the University of Michigan. She has taught nutrition at the university level, was a foods and nutrition specialist for the Michigan Cooperative Extension Service and was director of nutrition services for George Washington University Medical Center. She works on a number of projects with the American Dietetic Association's Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice group, served as editor of the newsletter Issues in Vegetarian Dietetics, is editor of a series of fact sheets on vegetarian nutrition produced by ADA and is co-author of the ADA's 1997 position paper on vegetarian diets http://www.eatright.org/adap1197.html . Ms. Messina is widely quoted in the media, writes for a number of publications and is a regular contributor on plant food issues to Encyclopedia Britannica. She is a co-founder of the new peer-reviewed journal Vegetarian Nutrition: An International Journal. Ms. Messina is also senior editor of the new international newsletter Vegetarian Nutrition and Health Letter http://www.llu.edu/llu/vegetarian/ , and is co-owner of the first internet list serve to address vegetarian issues from a scientific perspective. She is co-author of The Vegetarian Way, The Dietitians Guide to Vegetarian Diets: Issues and Applications, The Simple Soybean and Your Health, and has co-authored two vegetarian cookbooks, The Vegetarian No-Cholesterol Barbecue Book and The Vegetarian No-Cholesterol Family Style Cookbook). You can try her 'Ask The Experts' form at http://www.olympus.net/messina/ask.html or email her directly at messina Let us know what she says! I also highly recommend her book " The Vegetarian Way, The Dietitians Guide to Vegetarian Diets " In the mean time, eat lots of fruit (that's my expert advice). Oh and about the allergies, skip the cheese and dairy. It works like a charm. Incidentally, PETA has a free vegetarian pack, which you can order online http://www.meatstinks.com/livevegpak.html and includes nutritional information, " The PETA Guide to Animals in the Meat Industry " and tasty veggie recipes.
