We tried Rice Dream and it just doesn't taste like real dairy ice cream does and the kids won't eat it. *Ugh* Any recommendations? I go for ices. ... like Haagen Dasz Mango or Strawberry ... Toffutti has some pretty decadent stuff like Butter Pecan ... etc.. let them try that ... Guest guest Posted February 24, 2000 Report Share Posted February 24, 2000 Hey Alyssa,Everyone is different,some loose weight fast others slow.The most important thing is health.The ancient greeks had a saying " Heathy mind in a healthy body " as the ultimate goal.The diet you have chosen is infinitly more healthy than the previous one, and is backed up by mass amounts of scientific data as such.As far as a healthy mind goes, your dietary choice bares that out amply.I can only speak for myself,but I feel better and have more energy and less anxiety.Knowing that my diet is not causing any suffering to other critters, and by default is environmentally friendly puts me at ease.Anji may disagree with me on the anxiety thing when I'm late for work, but this is how I feel. Guest guest Posted February 25, 2000 Report Share Posted February 25, 2000 Hi Alyssa - With regard to the pounds dropping off, if you're anything like me you'll have a long wait! I've been vegan since last June and I weight 5lbs more than I did then. I'd like to put it down to the 2 1lb boxes of vegan chocolates I got for Christmas, 'cause then I could blame the people who gave them to me, but I think the truth is simpler and more damning - I just eat too much. I find it just as easy to overeat veganically as I did ovo-lactally. The difference is, now nothing screams on its way to my plate, and I never changed my eating pattern to benefit myself anyway. I consider any health benefits as a gift. The other contributory factor is that I now get into cooking much more because I'm not just making the same old tried 'n' trusted dinners that I did for years. It's almost a hobby, finding new and intriguing foods and food combinations, and I even made a cake a couple of weeks ago which I don't ever remember doing before. Of course, if you *make* a cake, you then have to *eat* a cake - particularly if, like me, you are surrounded by people who regard vegan food with deep suspicion. It's not hard to see how the pounds creep on. I hope your spare bits do drop off automatically, but I think you might have to do a bit of plate-watching to get it to happen. I'm sure it would be easier to diet as a vegan, I just love my food so much now that I don't really want to cut down! Cheers.
