Guest guest
TOKYO, March 14 — Scientists are set to create the world’s first cloned cat as early as June, Japanese media reported Tuesday. Researchers at Yamaguchi University, in eastern Japan, said they have succeeded in cultivating a cloned egg, developed from the cell of a dead cat fetus, in a test tube, the Kyodo News Agency reported. KYODO QUOTED the researchers as saying the egg was ready to be implanted in the womb of a female cat. “I am hoping to use this technique to preserve Iriomote wildcats, Siberian tigers and other felines in danger of extinction,” Tatsuyuki Suzuki, a professor at the university, was quoted as saying. If all goes well, the cloned cat will be delivered in June, the researchers said. Cloning has generated its share of controversy in Japan: In January, scientists at the Kagoshima Prefectural Cattle Breeding Development Institute announced that they had bred the clone of a cloned bull, the first time a large cloned animal was itself cloned. The government is currently considering legislation to outlaw human cloning. http://www.msnbc.com/news/381895.asp -- _____________ Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmamail.com powered by OutBlaze
