Guest guest
Hi, Just found this interesting article and thought you might be interested in reading it. In today's Slate.com, a couple of vegetarians living in the Lone Star State, ask Slate's advice columnist - Prudence - her advice on how to politely handle dinner parties where the hosts serve platters of red meat. " Our problem is that we are now in the South, where they serve meat like it's going out of style. We are both vegetarians. Though we certainly don't expect people to tailor their menus to our personal preferences, how do we politely decline meat dishes without offending the host and hostess? " the couple asks. http://fcast.net/cgi-bin/rc.cgi?slate.msn.com/Dear Prudence/00-03-16/DearPrudence.asp
Guest guest
I _can't even believe_ that they ate the meat. I shouldn't judge them though because I have no idea what it'd be like to live in the States, never mind Texas. I find I sometimes get the opposite reaction when I eat with meat-eaters. If they didn't already know, I would proudly announce that I am vegan. People (sometimes) would then say " Oh I hardly eat much meat " or " I only eat chiken " or something like that. The people in the article were afraid of offending meat-eaters but I find that people are afraid of offending vegetarians by ordering meat because everyone knows, at least partially, about how much healthier and saner a veg diet is. On the other hand, I have been flat-out accosted before, so maybe meat-eaters should be asking 'how to politely handle dinner parties'. -anji ----- Just found this interesting article and thought you might be interested in reading it.
