Guest guest
Hi people, I'm not sure how long I'll be staying here 'cos I get way too much mail already, but here comes the intro. I'm 16/f, currently located in Nottinghamshire, uk (and have been for 6 1/2 years, ahh!). I went veggie when I was 8, vegan, probably properly 2-3 years ago, although trying to varying degrees of success since I was 11. I'm at collage, doing A' leval Chemistry, Biology, Maths & Psychology, I hope to do a Biochemistry degree. I like rock music, but I think most of my favourites would fall under softer rock - I don't know, not good with labels. I have been trying lately not to get too bogged down with my slightly misanthropistic tendencies... well, more to come, most likely. Erm, as a new member, not sure how to say this, but I joined on digest, and the one I get so far had 6 messages, but it was pretty long. People are replying including the whole message history, along with all the headers and footers. It's a lot of scrolling. Bees & Honey: I consider honey the most humane animal product, however it is produced the bees must be alowed to go out to all the flowers and live pretty much naturaly. Of course most comercial farmers replace the honey with sugar-syrup, which isn't that nice. Bees do not have to die to get the honey, and they don't because it's bad for production - less bees, and disruption to the hive. There will always be bees dying in the hive, there are shifts to clean out the dead ones. When there is someone opeing up the hive every so often and poking around there will be the odd death from it, but in intensive-commercial farming this will be more because of carelessness. ROYAL JELLY is not a nice thing. It is the stuff the queen puts on a larve or whatever to make a new queen. The queen must be killed to extract it, and it obviously takes a LOT of queens. This would mean the queen was dead and she hadn't been able to make a new one - the hive would not be happy. I know someone who keeps bees as a hobby. She only takes surplus, and has one hive. She cares about the bees. I would not object to honey from her hive. Asha
