Guest guest
Hi I am wondering what some of you would do in certain situations. I mean we don't eat honey(I don't) because it kills bees but I would certainly kill head lice if my son were to get it. Also I would kill roaches. I guess I feel like these things if I were to let go, would eventually ruin my life so I am placing myself as more important than these living creatures. But I don't agree with animal testing for medical research. And what about taking medication that would save my life but had animal ingredients? What would I do, I'm not sure. I don't exactly know where I am going with all of this but not eating honey always makes me think of these things. There is absolutely no reason for me to eat honey so I won't to it and if I were to get roaches or lice ant there were a humane way to get rid of the problem , then I would do that as well but there is not and I doubt there ever will be as even the methods which get rid of both of these pests are not alway effective blah blah blah. Ok I'm done. ____ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Guest guest
Hi Toni, I guess my answer to your question about 'to kill or not to kill' is as complex as the problem. In my own life, if I can avoid killing I do. But, there are times when I simply can't. For instance, I will catch and release spiders and flies if I find them in my house. But, fleas - well, I have two dogs and three cats. I can't live with fleas. They are bothersome to both my animals and my sensibilities (and often carry disease). So, for fleas I must make an exception. We recently had a carpenter ant infestation. (Being from Colorado, I didn't know what they were and was simply picking up each one I found and taking it outside. That is, until a friend told me what they were and that they were nesting somewhere in my house.) I read everything I could find on safe, chemical-free, and humane ways to rid my home of these not-so-little guys - but, each piece of research revealed only one effective way to get them to move out -- they had to be killed by a professional. So... I felt I had no choice. I couldn't live with big, black ants eating away at the interior of our walls. Here, as with a flea situation, I felt I had to come first. I admit, I saw an ant on the bathroom floor convulsing and knew it was from the poison and I felt huge amounts of guilt. I cried all evening about that suffering ant. Thank goodness my husband is the kind of wonderful guy who is understanding and compassionate. On the other hand, my Rheumatologist recently prescribed an anti-inflammatory, Celebrex, for my arthritis. I did some research and found that this product is manufactured by Monsanto. The company doesn't just test on animals (to which I'm opposed), but it is also engaged in other unethical practices, such as the engineering of genetically modified foods. (You know, the tomatoes' genes spliced with cold water fish DNA so vegetarians can't eat tomatoes in good conscious, kind of baloney?) Anyway, I refused to take it. I told my Rheumatologist (who thinks I'm crazy anyway because I take herbal supplements and believe in acupuncture) and he just shook his head. But, he HAD to come up with something else because I wouldn't budge. It's a difficult decision about where to draw the line. I think each person has a different threshold of what they can and will not do to stay within their own ethics. It's all very personal. So, yet another looooong winded response to a simple question. I hope I'm not making a bad impression here!!!! (Thanks again, Holiday, for being so friendly!)
