I remember once I'd made the resolve to become a vegetarian, I found everything so difficult!!! I lived in a town where vegetarians were akin to UFO's... I was an oddity. People in my office would introduce me as, " This is Suzy...the vegetarian. " Then the person being introduced would say something like, " Oh, really? What do you eat??? " I finally started answering... " Oh, I just graze on the lawn. Keeps the mowing to a minimum. " My first trip to the grocery store was torture!!! I cried!! I spent three hours there reading label after label of my favorite foods and having to reject them because they contained chicken broth, beef fat, or some other part of an animal. That was the stuff I COULD identify! Over the years I've learned there were other ingredients I didn't realize were parts of animals. Or the ground up little red bugs they sometimes use to make pink grapefruit juice pink. It's a process. It takes time, like any new thing you incorporate. There's a lot of information out there to get through and it's not always easy. But, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!!!! We're here for you! ( I AM!!! ) Concerning your family -- I'm so sorry. It's really difficult to live in an environment where others try to make you question or explain yourself. But, your heart will tell you all you need to know. It used to bother me immensely if I sat down to eat with someone who was eating a piece of flesh. I thought about where it came from, what it went through, and what it was doing to their body. Living like that drives a person crazy! I don't think about that anymore. I realize I can only change myself... I can only do what feels best for me. Others have to make that decision for themselves. And they owe you the respect to allow you to do the same. The best thing to do is to find others who think like you do. Look in the classifieds for gathering information and see if there's a vegetarian group you can become involved with. It does a world of good to know you aren't the only one, and I assure you, you're not!!!! Good luck to you!!!!
