Guest guest
Thank you Vik. I certainly hope that my recent email did not not come across as censorship and that everyone would know that I'm referring to talk such as that which occurred on the list while I was away. I only mean to say that this list is not a forum for brainstorming your next fire-bombing and that there are more appropriate places for that. I suppose it's a matter of semantics. For instance, we agree that it is not cool to say " Hey everyone, I think we should go bomb the fur shop " , because like you said > If one fur store gets mashed in the next few months > ... and the RCMP gets a hold of any of this shit, > guess who's going to be a suspect? but > I feel that if people talk about " ALF " -style ideals, > or feel that the concept of direct action is a good > thing, then I think they > should be able to express themselves as such. yet > any sort of talk that could be incriminating to > anyone should cease but then is it okay to say " I think it's okay for people to bomb animal exploiters " or " I think the ALF rock! " ? Doesn't that incriminate us as well? I mean, how do we talk about it " indirectly " ? > While I disagree about " directly " talking about > " Direct Action " in this public forum, But I'm just being picky. I welcome discussions about the percieved implications of the use of violence by the animal liberation movement. In fact you and I have gone at a few times already > However, ideals or > philosophies on the topic should never cease. It's > important to talk about > and debate the topic of direct action > It's a hot ethical topic. I agree completely. And I'll take this opportunity to express my philosophy which is that, even though I get really angry just like everybody else, I still think we'd probably be better off practicing what we preach --> non-violence. And though smashing windows at a fur store may (feel good and) close down a shop eventually, does it really reach the people? The people who are making the decisions to buy the coats in the first place? Does it change anyone's mind? Does it make people take the movement as a whole, including you and me, more seriously? Do you think that anyone wants to hear what I have to say after they saw an AR terrorist on America's Most Wanted the night before? I don't think so. We have to change people's minds, that is _the only way_. We can change them for worse with illegal activities, or for better by doing it legit. And there are many ways to do it legit. I just ask myself, what would Ghandi or Howard Lyman do?.... -anji -- _____________ Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmamail.com powered by OutBlaze
