Guest guest
D.C. eh? I'm in LA and dying to get up to DC for the week of April 16 to help protest the world bank meeting. I have a job obligation that I must fullfill (I'm doing the special effects on this really cheesy straight-to-video movie, and there is nobody to take over for me) and I am trying desperately to finish by the 10th so I can get my butt on a greyhound to DC. Is anybody else planning to go and get tear-gassed in the name of common sense and human decency? don't worry about dumb vegan questions, I've been trying to be vegan for like only 3 months, so I'm sure you know more than me. -patrick k. > " katie " <kahly426 > > > all about me >Wed, 05 Apr 2000 20:10:07 -0000 > >hi, well Anthony suggested that I introduce myself so... Guest guest
hi, well Anthony suggested that I introduce myself so... I am 18 and live in MD, near D.C. I graduated from high school last year and I am currently attending a Community College. I hope to teach one day, first grade. I think my transformation to being vegan was defintely a step by step process. I stopped eating red meat when I was really young and just two years ago did I decide to completely go off all animals. Recently I realized that I am not really off eating all animals nor using them everyday for selfish reasons. I knew of one vegan in high school and I honestly thought it was something I would never do. I guess I stereotyped it as the only eat salad way of life. My parents are both vegetarian and have been really supportive. Some of my friends have asked why and even made a little fun of me, but it really hasn't been that bad as far as ridicule goes. I am really new at this and I was looking for a place just like this to be able to ask questions and so on. I also think everyone has been so nice and I really appreciate it. So I hope you are all prepared to be patient with me because I'm sure I will ask some stupid questions. I look forward to getting to know all of you! Guest guest
laura- As a knew vegan i find it really encouraging to hear that others have stuck with their choice. I am definitely at the beginning of my road to feeling truly vegan. I went to the store yesterday and could not find soap that is animal free. This is so frusterating. I am trying to avoid ordering things online, it just seems like a hassle. As far as make-up goes, that is difficult to replce also. I am determined to do so, I just get so mad when a company makes it look like they are animal friendly (ie. don't test on animals)yet they still have animals in their products. So hypocritical as I am sure many would agree. Nice to be introduced to you.
Guest guest
i guess i should introduce myself as well... i grew up in dc but have also lived in massachusetts and ohio, and now, illinois... i've been living in chicago for almost 3 years. i'm 23 and i'm graduating this may from the art institute of chicago, and i just finished work on my thesis show, which opened on the first. I'm a photography major, but i also do work in experimental sound and music. i'm also very interested in science, especially ecology and physics, and was also majoring in environmental studies before i got to art school. i've been vegetarian since i was about 7 and went vegan five years ago... i was headed towards veganism for a long time, and it took me a few years to actually fully embrace the title. I used to have lots of other vegan friends, but they've been few and far between since i've been in chicago. veganism is something i'm hugely committed to for so many reasons; i joined this list because i enjoy having contact/conversation with others who share and respect that commitment. i often find that many peoply immediately antagonize me upon discovering that i am vegan. do any of you experience this? i always try to respect the choices of others, even though i often disagree with them. i'm looking forward to getting to know you, too! have a great day laura eat television for dinner you said backwards is we
Guest guest
katie, nice to meet you, too! this website might help you find vegan household/beauty products. it's the peta caring consumer campain list, which is updated every few months or so. http://www.peta-online.org/cmp/ccprod.html also, anyone know of any vegan fabric softener dryer sheets??? all the ones i can find are manufactured by proctor & gamble or lever bros, both of whom test on animals. i've found all kinds of great detergents, but no fabric softeners. have a great day laura eat television for dinner you said backwards is we
