y'all just gotta read this

" In one of the dumber moves made lately by the National Milk Producers'

Association, the group is seeking the prohibition of the word " milk " in

conjunction with any soy drink. Rob Byrne, a Vice President of the

Association, says, " We don't want them using milk's good name for their

product. "

Since soymilk is loaded with anticancer substances, is free of cholesterol,

and low in saturated fat, perhaps it's the soy industry that should be suing

the dairy people for tarnishing the public perception of the word milk.

With soymilk sales up 150% over the past three years, this move is clearly an

attempt by cow's milk producers to fend off a product with unstoppable

momentum. These numbers may explain the sudden urge to strip soy milk of its

name. Bob Callanan, spokesperson of the American Soybean Association, adds

that the word " milk " has long been in common use for a variety of nondairy

products, including milk of magnesia and coconut milk. "

vegan.com is a great site, so you should check it out, lots of great info and

they have a deal with amazon.com - for you cookbook addicts - you get 20% off

the list price ( at amazon) and then amazon donates a portion of your

purchase back to vegan.com * tip * if ordering books, order more than one at

a time, so you don't have to pay extra shipping - it works out to be cheaper

than going to the store :)
