Guest guest
Doctor's Billboard Takes On the March of Dimes New Ad Tackles Controversial Animal Experiments FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday 06 April 2000 Washington, D.C.—A Washington, D.C.-based physicians group is confronting the March of Dimes' use of animals in a daring new ad campaign debuting in San Francisco today. " How many animals will be killed with your March of Dimes donation? Just say no, " reads a bound-to-be-contentious billboard sponsored by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). In addition to San Francisco, the outdoor ad is also appearing in Dallas and San Diego, two other cities where the March of Dimes will hold its annual WalkAmerica events in late April. San Francisco citizens can view the billboard on Jackson Street, between Kearny and Columbus; the west-facing billboard is scheduled to post today. It will be up throughout the month. " March of Dimes supporters should know their hard-earned and well-intentioned contributions are helping fund fatal animal experiments, " says PCRM president Neal D. Barnard, M.D. PCRM calculates the giant charity has spent an estimated $1 million per year on such disturbing tests as freezing newborn ferrets and injuring the lungs of infant lambs. " Countless animals have died at the hands of March of Dimes-funded experiments, " says Dr. Barnard. " The fact is that animal models are not an effective way to study birth defects. Virtually everything we currently know about birth defects we learned through studies of human populations. The March of Dimes should put all its resources into human-centered research and into programs that help women prevent birth defects. " More information is available at www.charitiesinfo.org, a PCRM Web site that lists those charities that do and do not fund animal experiments. Click here for a downloadable image of the billboard. PCRM is comprised of 5,000 doctors and more than 100,000 laypeople. http://www.pcrm.org -- _____________ Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmamail.com powered by OutBlaze
