Guest guest
Dear Alyssa, > If study after study, proves the animal research cannot be put towards Humans, why is it continued? One reason is money. After having read about it for the past nine years, I think that's probably the most basic reason... the core of it all. There are companies that produce the equipment used to test animals, labs and doctors funded by animal experiments - so they keep working, their organization keeps running, and of course there are the companies that breed animals specifically to be used in experiments. I've seen their catalogs, it's amazing -- they're selling lab animals in much the same way car dealerships sell cars. It's very sad. Then, of course, there ARE those that insist we could not use the products we use (cleaning, cosmetics, etc.) if they had not been tested on animals. (i.e. - the LD 50 test tells us that if we drink Draino we'll probably die and the Draize Eye Test showed that shampoo in your eye could cause blindness. Of course, what they DON'T tell you is that the amount of Draino pumped into, say, a group of puppies to determine if 50% will die from consuming Draino is so enormous that no human could possibly drink that much... and the rabbits used in the Draize Eye Test have their heads immobilized and their eyes propped open so they can't blink.) I like Aveda's warning on their products. It begins with the words - " Common Sense Warning:... " I think that should be on everything. If you're stupid enough to drink a drain opener or too dim to figure out that you should rinse your eyes immediately if shampoo gets in them, then frankly I don't think a warning could have saved ya... know what I mean? But, that's another part of the bottom line -- it saves the company from lawsuits filed by just such idiots who can't seem to figure out life for themselves and need that warning -- " Do not use this blowdryer while sleeping. " Sorry about the rant there. If there's one thing I can't stand it's blatant stupidity... I think the animal industry (in all its forms) is propelled by it. > Why can't I go to the grocery and find one bar of soap that hasn't been tested on animals? Well, the grocery store probably can't help you. It can't help me! BUT!!!!! If you have a health food store close by you can find lots of cruelty free soaps!! Kiss My Face soap is one of my very favorites! If you don't have a health food store close by, you can order the soaps from the companies themselves or companies that distribute multiple products -- such as The Vitamin Shoppe ( http://www.VitaminShoppe.com ) We recently purchased a TON of stuff from them at a great price and we're set on soap for a looooong time!!! (If I had your address I'd send you some!) > I'm so distressed! It'll get easier! We'll help!!!
