Guest guest
Hi, Holiday. In the UK there is a vegetarian dogfood available called Happidog. Not a dog owner myself, but I am friends with a couple who use this brand for their dogs. It's a dry food you reconstitute, & my friends add yeast extract (Marmite, Vegemite) to improve the flavour. Takes time to get the dogs used to it, but works out OK eventually. Also TVP chunks & homemade kibble/biscuits etc ought to be fine - and most dogs I know eat too fast to be able to tell what they're eating (they're faster than the speed of taste!!) Up until recently there wasn't a veggie catfood available, but the Vegan Society did a factsheet on homemade alternatives and sell a supplement, Vegecat, to ensure complete nutrition (made in the US, I think). Now another company sells veggie catfood (I can't remember the name). Cats are more difficult to change - they're picky eaters & taste is definitely important to them. Easiest if they have veg food from weaning onwards. I had cats up until last year, and mine refused to eat tinned meat anyway - they preferred dry cat-biscuits. But still not keen on veggie foods. One notable exception: one cat LOVED Granose's Nuttolene (vegan canned peanut product that can be used like spam) and baked beans!!
