Guest guest
Cosmetics Tested on Animals Nixed in Europe U.S. legislation still pending The European Commission passed legislation last week making it illegal to sell eyeliner, aftershave or other cosmetics tested on animals. However, the ruling won't go into effect right away because many U.S. companies still test on animals, and the commission fears the ruling would prevent those companies from selling their products in Europe. Legislation is pending before Congress that might relax testing standards so that animals don't have to be used, ABC News notes. And approximately 550 companies have already signed a pledge with the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics agreeing to " neither commission nor conduct animal testing for their ingredients, product formulations or finished products. " The Doris Day Animal League site has a complete list of companies that have signed the pledge. They include Gilette and Mary Kay, but not Procter & Gamble. Shoppers can check cosmetic products for the coalition's logo of an encircled rabbit. ___________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Click here for FREE Internet Access and Email http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html
