Guest guest
Altweb has news to share. Bob Dole, former U.S. senator and one-time presidential candidate--and one of the members of Congress responsible for key amendments to the Animal Welfare Act--says Congress intended for rats, mice, and birds to be covered by the AWA. The Institute for Laboratory Animals (ILAR) will be considering this controversial topic, as well as other regulatory issues, at an open meeting next week. Meanwhile, the Berkeley Humane Commission is offering funds for the development of alternative methods. And scientists are organizing the first workshop on alternatives in Latin America.
