Gary Kowalski (Lantern Books, 2001 - IVU Supporter) Comments by Susan Lafayette, Director of the Humane Society of Chittenden County: " I encourage everyone to read this thoughtful, moving, and timely piece which inspired me to look at our world, and our impact on it, with Kowalski's fresh perspective. I grew up going to Sunday School, and have since lost touch with my faith and its relevance to my contemporary reality. This book will help everyone, regardless of their religious or political affiliations, regain perspective and respect of our place among the world's creatures. I have read and reread the passages in this book, in awe of Kowalski's common sense style and appeal. Thanks! Gary. " Ignoring Binky, The Life and Times of Victor Evertor by Beverly Red and Mitch Hall Published by: Checkmate--Winning Strategies for Environmental Peace - http://www.CheckmateNow.org [iVU Supporter] The graphic novel (comic book), Ignoring Binky, The Life and Times of Victor Evertor, is a satirical treatment of the past six decades of American culture, connecting the dots between personal pathology and the plight of the planet. One college student wrote, " I read your book and found it hilarious and a breath of fresh air. We need this kind of humor to spread the word that destruction of our earth and resources, as well as destruction of human compassion, is not okay with us. I applaud you for being brave enough to explore these issues and bring them to the public eye. I liked how Victor's character developed and how the chaos escalated. The purpose of this is to make grants to encourage the setting up of new societies and to help more established groups to run outreach and humanitarian programmes. As an example, the Nigerian Vegetarian Society has a programme that provides free vegetarian meals to homeless people. In all cases we are very careful to assess the genuineness of the groups and the projects that we endorse. We are in constant need of finance for our main projects but we think that fellow vegetarians who are working hard for our shared aims in usually very difficult circumstances deserve our encouragement and support. If you are able to help with this work please make your cheque payable to HIPPO but write on the back of it 'Vegetarian World' or just 'VW'. We will acknowledge your donation and inform you of how it is used.
