Every year millions of dogs and cats die a horrible death at the hands of butchers who sell the meat for human consumption. The methods of killing are unregulated and barbaric. I understand that the cruel treatment given to these animals is against the Korean Animal Protection Law of 1991, and therefore is an illegal act. In addition, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, dogs and cats are not defined as agriculture and cannot be treated as such. Under these rules, their butchery is also illegal. I urge you to make every effort to uphold the existing laws that protect dogs and cats, and to introduce new legislation that clearly condemns the slaughtering of these animals for human consumption. I strongly urge you to stop the actions of Representative Kim Hong Shin to introduce a new bill, which would include dogs and cats within the category of livestock production. I will not buy Korean goods, support Korean business, visit Korea, or support the Year 2000 World Cup until Koreans stop eating cats and dogs.
