NOTMILK - ACSH-HOLES

" Even if future research shows

that the link between milk and

prostate cancer is real, it is

not likely that experts will

ever advise men to stop

drinking milk. "

TRASH FROM ACSH

There's a hole in your milk bucket,

dear Liza, dear Liza...

There are also holes in your pro-dairy

press release, dear Liza Whelan.

There is an organization calling itself

the American Council on Science and

Health, or ACSH (rhymes with cash),

and they've just issued their version

of how one should celebrate June

as National Dairy Month.

ACSH was founded by Elizabeth Whelan

in 1978, and their successful strategy has been

to act as mouthpiece for those companies

and industries willing to donate funds to

push their agendas upon the American public.

ACSH has been a strong supporter of

Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine

growth hormone, and that should be no

surprise when one investigates their financial

records.

In 1992, Monsanto gave ACSH $105,000.

ACSH promotes biotechnology because

it remains a top priority in their bottom

line intere$t$ to continue to do so.

In addition to Monsanto, they've received

major funding from DuPont and Dow

Chemical, two of the world's largest

biotech firms. DuPont owns Pioneer

Hybred, the largest GMO seed

company in the world.

Where else does ACSH get funding?

Their sponsors include Burger King and

the American Meat Institute. Follow the

money trail, and it leads directly to

Kellogg's Cereal, Carnation Milk,

Hershey's, Land O' Lakes, and

America's largest dairy processor,

Kraft.

June is the month of calling in favors,

and here's what ACSH did for dairy:

http://www.acsh.org/publications/story/milk/index.html

" What's the Story? The Role of Milk in Your Diet.

What Are the Benefits of Milk? "

ACSH repeats the usual dairy propaganda. Despite

having real science, despite contrary evidence,

ACSH promotes the calcium myth and ignores

the fact that the nations consuming the most

milk and dairy also have the highest rates

of bone disease.

ACSH also takes this opportunity to

bash those reporting the real science

by writing:

" Some extremist groups have claimed

that milk is not a good food for infants

and children...They claim that milk

can cause or contribute to a wide

variety of health problems-including

heart disease, diabetes, prostate cancer,

allergies, and infant colic-and that

hormones in milk are causing early

puberty in girls. "

ACSH agrees that saturated fat does not do

the arteries any good. They suggest that one

select the low-fat dairy options. Imagine

pizzerias responding to requests for low-fat

pizza. ASCH writes:

" Heart Disease. It is sometimes claimed

that milk is bad for the heart because it

is high in saturated fat. However, you do

not have to eliminate milk from your diet

in order to reduce your saturated fat

intake. Instead, choose fat-free or

reduced-fat milk and dairy products. "

Remarkable use of the English language.

" It is sometimes claimed... "

SHOW THIS TO A FRIEND OR

RELATIVE WITH PROSTATE CANCER

The ultimate of arrogance. Here is what

Elizabeth Whelan wrote:

" Even if future research shows that the

link between milk and prostate cancer is

real, it is not likely that experts will ever

advise men to stop drinking milk. "

Whelan must have gotten her degree from

the Borden School of Compassion. Lizzie

Borden, that is.

THE ULTIMATE IN DENIAL

It seems that Whelan has not left her home

or office recently. One simply has to visit

a mall or school yard and take note of the

figures of little girls who mature much

earlier than their mothers did. Whelan writes:

" Early Puberty in Girls. Experts aren't

sure whether girls really are entering

puberty earlier. "

Whelan's final paragraph is a prostitute's

paid tribute to the man paying her way:

" Most of the health concerns that

have been raised about cows' milk

appear to be based on misconceptions

or incomplete understanding of the

facts. There is one important,

scientifically justified health concern

about milk, however-the fact that

many children and adolescents are

not drinking enough of it. "
