NEWS ALERT!!

 

DO NOT support any event held at or in association with ART SYSTEM

(327 Spadina Ave. just north of Dundas).

 

Blocks away from ART SYSTEM, police found 70 (SEVENTY!) video tapes that

depicted the most horrible acts of torture of cats - including skinning them

alive and torturing them to death. Two people have been arrested and the

police are still searching for Matt (white male, early twenties, buzz cut -

look for WANTED posters about town.)

 

They're defense is that it's " art " .

 

Art System is run by Jubal Brown - the pretensious wanker that barfed

on priceless AGO paintings a few years ago and called it art. Jubal

showed up at the bail hearing in support of his friend Jessie Powers (one of

the three guys arrested for cruelty to animals and public mischief). Jubal's

support (along with other OCA students) is OUTRAGEOUS and OFFENSIVE.

 

Allison Cummings and I are organizing a petition that decries this claim of

" art " . It is really important that the arts community speaks out against

these depraved and horrific actions and does not appear to support these

people by our silence. The danger is that everyday people will hear the

defense and hear the word " art " and hold it against us.

Hi everyone,

Evan Brooker and Chad Dembski cancelled their fundraiser at Art System last

Friday night in response to my email and ended up losing their deposit money

for the trouble. I was really blown away by their concern and donated some

money right off the top to help cover their losses - but they still ended up

taking personal losses.

 

I think that was a powerful and gutsy thing to do and I want to help Evan by

spreading the word about his upcoming opening night, then I'm going to go to

his opening night/fundraiser, and then I will spend/donate lots of money.

So I hope that you will also:

Evan's show SLAP opens JULY 6th - 8:30 pm at the Tarragon Mainspace (30

Brigman Ave). Tickets $8.

Where: 2 Spadina Road (The building is on the N.W. corner of Bloor and

Spadina where the CIBC is. The party will happen in the court yard and

people should buzz apartment 3 to be let in.)

treatment of animals)
