Guest guest
Please crosspost! Demand Justice! Do your part!! Source: www.nuzzled.net/sparkle.htm " The Nuzzled Network " **** ~* SPARKLE *~ In Lawrence County, Ohio, a three year old, black lab mix crawled it's way to a porch. How he made it is unbelievable, as his back legs were tied together with a rope. Law enforcement officials believe Sparkle's legs were tied together in preparation for him to be hanged and gutted. Sparkle , with an amazing will to live, got away from his attackers and climbed a 100ft hill and made his way to a porch where the woman living there found him. As soon as he was found , she made phone calls to different animal agencies in order to help this poor dog. Sparkle was picked up and transported to the Proctorville Animal Clinic, where he began receiving immediate attention by the vet on duty. NOTE: The " nice woman " who made the phone call about Sparkle is Julia Simmons. She reported finding a dog that had been severely abused and had his hind legs tied together. Upon investigation it was found that Simmons herself had actually owned this dog for over a year. She had called the young black Labrador mix " Bear " but his rescuers renamed him " Sparkle. " Upon examination of Sparkle several injuries, seen and unseen were found. His back legs were bound together so tightly, the rope cut into one of the tendons. His entire body is covered with mange. Rubber bands were tied around his tail so tightly that his tail fell off. Sparkle was tested positive for heartworms and has an enlarged heart due to the heart. His tongue is in bad condition, probably rope burns. Sparkle may have injured eyelids on rope, but it is too soon to tell. Sparkle's vet bill is at an estimated $850. We are asking that anyone willing and able to send a donation, please do. This little guy needs love and attention. We at Nuzzled can't even begin to tell you the pain we felt upon reading about Sparkle. Our heart goes out to him. He's a tough guy. We hope for a full recovery and a loving home. We also hope that his attackers will be caught and the necessary punishments will be applied! Donations to help with vet expenses for Sparkle, can be sent to: Lawrence County Humane Society P.O. Box 412, Ironton, OH 45638. Write " For Sparkle " on your check. To view pictures of Sparkle and read more of his story please visit: http://www.geocities.com/jcrowe22/sparkle.html On June 16 an officer of the Humane Society filed a complaint of abandonment, cruelty and neglect at the Lawrence County Prosecutor's Office. The Chief Prosecutor is Mr. J.B Collier and the Chief Investigator is Mr. Nemmo. Because damages were over $300, the penalty for the cruelty may be upgraded to a First Degree Misdemeanor, the penalty for which would be a maximum 6 month sentence and a $1,000 fine. Steve VanSant, the Shelter Director at the Lawrence County Humane Society where Sparkle is being rehabilitated, writes frequent updates about Sparkle at www.geocities.com/jcrowe22/sparkle2.html. However, Simmons is trying to intimidate everyone involved in the case and the media, threatening to sue everyone. She even accused the Humane Society of having been the ones who abused Sparkle! Because Steve does not want to compromise the case, he wrote in his June 21 update, " I'm NOT going to address any of the case issues with you or anyone else. " Simmons was scheduled for pre-trial on June 25. On June 26 Steve wrote, " Unfortunately, there are still no further developments (about the charges). " On June 29 Steve wrote that the next update would be July 2. A Web search conducted on July 2 produced no more recent information about this case. URGENT PLEA FROM STEVE VANSANT Sparkle is Sparkle is Sparkle. His trusting features, his head, eyes and bountiful tongue - just makes him a dog you'd love to cuddle with and tell the world to go take a .....(in doggie vernacular) hike. Sometimes I really wonder who needs who the most. Whenever I've had a trying day, and lately there have been a few, NOTHING ends the day better than by going to visit my little baby (okay, he's NOT little, but still a baby, nonetheless). I like to think that we bring out the best in each other. I can end my visit with Sparkle, and go through the whole day, fighting each battle that comes my way. Like the lady who called and said she had 30 cats (NOT a typo - thirty cats) and wanted to know if I wanted them. Lady, please, do I look like a cat magnet. I'm NOT unsympathetic to her situation, but has she NOT heard of spaying/neutering. Said it all began with just two harmless kittens. DUH! Anyway, I gave her as many suggestions as I could, and told her I'd even take digital photos if that would help. Honest, I do feel for her. But even in Lawrence County, you can get a spay certificate for around $40. That's less thank a two month supply of kitten chow. Now for the request: Please note that this request is directly from me, and in NO WAY reflects the membership of the Lawrence County Humane Society. I called for the prosecutor's chief investigator TWICE today, asking for an update on Sparkle' s case. I stayed by the phone until 6 something, no return call. My PERSONAL opinion is that we have handed the neglect case to them on a silver platter, complete with witness statements, PROOF from FIVE counties that the LONGEST someone may harbor a " stray " without claiming them is 30 days (The owner ADMITS she had Sparkle for 9 months, but STILL says he was a stray. She had this poor guy long enough for a baby to be conceived and born, but she still claims no ownership???) and they're still " not sure " she owned the dog? To that I say B.S. If J.B. Collier is the animal lover Mr. Nemmo claims him to be, why no charges against ---------. If they blow this, they're telling everybody in the county that its okay to neglect your animal until it dies. We're talking dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, etc. In our county the " standard " used by the prosecutor's office to determine ownership of a dog is TWO WEEKS. When the dog warden cites someone to court for " failure to license " , the standard is TWO WEEKS. The county has won case after case after case based on this standard. So, I believe that EVERYBODY who has emailed about Sparkle, sent money for his recovery, or just has followed the updates, DESERVES to know WHY charges have not been filed. In fact, on Thursday, just after the holiday, I'm going to call Mr. J.B. Collier (our prosecutor) personally and DEMAND some answers. I hope that ALL Sparkle fans will join me. Let's give the secretaries writers' cramp. The number is 740-533-4360. You all cared to send lots of money for Sparkle, now please drop a dime and DEMAND justice for Sparkle. All over the country its been proven over and over again. When one starts out with animal abuse (no matter how small the animal), they almost ALWAYS move up the food chain. How far up the chain does " you know who " have to go before someone acts???? What if it were THEIR or THEIR CHILD'S pet?? We'd probably see special prosecutors being appointed all over the place. IF you've been following Sparkle's case, on Thursday, PLEASE call the office of the prosecutor and DEMAND to know why this.......woman.....still walks free and still while Sparkle lies in a kennel trying to recuperate. By the way, --------- thinks we are ALL fanatics and that we need to " get a life " !! Doesn't that just fry you!?!?!?!?
