Banquet to Force Cruel Menu Item on Patrons

The D.C. Dining Society is holding its annual Great Foods of the

World Holiday Banquet on Tuesday, December 11, at 6:30 p.m. at

the Loews L'Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. One of the

menu items is scheduled to be foie gras, which is produced by

force-feeding ducks and geese three times a day by jamming open

their bills and shoving a long, inflexible pipe down their

throats, which drives several pounds of feed into each bird's

stomach. The process causes their livers to become diseased and

swollen several times larger than their normal size. Some

experience ripped-open necks and ruptured internal organs due to

the intense pressure, and workers are often given monetary

rewards for not " bursting " birds. The stress and pain often

result in birds who can no longer walk and are reduced to

propelling themselves over their cage floors by pushing with

their wings.

Please contact Chef Marty immediately and ask him to remove foie

gras from the menu. Tell him that with so many cruelty-free

vegetarian alternatives available, there is no excuse for

promoting this atrocity:
