Guest guest
What people cannot feed themselves, how are they going to find enough to feed animals? It's pure craziness - maybe if they get enough letters pointing out that the answer in the short term is more likely to be high quality vegetable-based aid, they may think again. It has to be worth a try! I can't bear to think of the thousands of animals that are going to suffer through this scheme. http://www.oxygen.com/topic/specials/fightfamine_20011220.html Cathy
Guest guest
Jo, I don't know much about Vegfam (I did ask them for details of exactly what they do, case histories etc, but they never told me) so I cannot comment, but I love Hippo, which is a vegan charity that not only sends tvp to areas of need, but also encourages people in African countries to grow and process their own. If you'll forgive the analogy, it's the old prinicple of giving a man a fishing net as opposed to a fish. The people who propose sending animals to areas of need obviously do not understand how much the food and water requirements of a "food animal" outstrip any benefits it may convey on those who eat it or its produce. If it were not so seriously awful it would be funny. I have a friend who says that he has serious problems with people who give what they want to give, rather than what the person in distress needs. I see what he means now. Cathy - Jo Tuesday, February 05, 2002 9:40 AM Re: Some idiots are proposing to send animals to Afghanistan! Cathy I suppose they just don't see it the same as us - which is a shame. I have seen adverts for VegFam (I think) in either the Vegetarian or Vegan magazine. It's a pity they are not better known.
