Guest guest
Hey there folks, I live in the Portland, Oregon area and had read this in the local paper -- and now it's being brought up on a discussion board on and I don't know how to respond. I'm hoping that someone out there can point me to some ammunition to use to refute this paper. Anyway, the article is here: http://osu.orst.edu/dept/ncs/newsarch/2002/Mar02/vegan.htm and the gist of it is that the author is indicating that because of the animals killed in agriculture to raise crops (mice, rabbits, insects), that it would kill fewer creatures to go to a strictly beef diet. I can see what they're saying, but I don't know a real good way to respond. The one thing I noticed is that the author is using a field of Alfalfa as his example -- and I for one -- being a vegan -- have never had the pleasure of eating Alfalfa (I believe it's used for farm animals only). But I find the report disturbing, to say the least. I would really like to think that my vegan diet would not be killing ANY animals. Anyway -- any good ammunition would help.
