" Our global environment depends on animals in so many ways, " said Patricia Forkan, HSUS executive vice president. " If we are to sustain an environmental balance, it is essential that we support and protect wild animals in their natural habitats as well as domestic animals in our care. Earth Day is a reminder that every day we should recognize and respect the importance of all animals to our Earth as an essential link toward achieving that balance, " she said. The HSUS global family will be represented with seven exhibit booths in the Earth Tent on site: The HSUS (main booth), Animal Channel, Humane Society International (HSI), Earth Charter USA, Wildlife Land Trust, Earth Voice and the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE). At the HSUS booths, people can pick up a variety of information about animal protection issues. Activities at the main HSUS booth include a visit from Talon, the D.C. United soccer team mascot, as well as turtle-suit clad volunteers as first seen at the WTO conference in Seattle. Earth Day attendees can sign the Humane Choices Pledge, a promise to make a difference for animals in several ways ranging from not wearing fur to being a responsible pet owner. Animal Channel, The HSUS's multi-media Internet site at http://www.animalchannel.net, will team with Washington modern rock radio station WHFS to stream audio and video broadcasts throughout the event.
