When insulin is produced by bacteria, it is done in fermentation vessels,

just as in the production of beer, etc. I yet have to hear about the

spillage of fatal beer bacteria, or the contamination of beer bacteria of

other species. Possibly the fat stomachs of some men are just the incubators

of these deadly germs?! Anyway, medicine and the pharmaceutical industry is

getting away from bovine insulin as more and more cases seem to turn

intolerant after long term treatment. Insulin is now often produced in

human-derived cell cultures, which are unfortunately very expensive.

The majority of diabetes in young people is due to an autoimmune disorder

and not through diet, but even if it was, I wouldn't have the heart to say

they got what they deserved. It would be like saying people with HIV

shouldn't have had sex or shouldn't have summated to blood transplants etc.

I always thought that veganism was a natural intelligent progression of a

species that has learned enough and is able to make the 'choice' to live a

life that inflicts as little pain and influence on the surrounding ecosystem

as possible. The majority of vegans I know are very well educated and know

what they are talking about, but most of all they are compassionate. I would

love to be a vegans' pet in one of my future lives, if there is such a thing

as incarnation. They are less likely to disrespect me and they appreciate me

just as much as I would appreciate them.

Anyway, if you think of bacteria as feeling entities, you should be aware

that your body is an ecosystem hosting lots of bacteria that keep your body

in tip top shape and which kill other 'intruding' bacteria, thus preventing

infections. I call that good companions. You yourself, unwittingly are a big

killing machine because the lining of your respiratory and digestive system

is designed to engulf and virtually suffocate or hold any intruding organism

until your immune cells digest them. So if you regard bacteria with

compassion, what would be the ultimate thing to do to put that compassion

into practice?! I suppose suicide. But that would kill millions of host

bacteria too, and also possibly some parasitic worm you may well harbour.

I hope you are slowly starting to understand what I am hitting at. If you

take your concerns of compassion too far, you become a hypocrite and you

damage the reputation of veganism, and help the opposition to make us the

laughing stock. You can take things too far and turn your compassion for all

living things into an anti-human and anti-nature realm that nobody and

nothing could live in. Are you aware that at the moment your are squashing

thousands of dust mites with your behind?! I think there is an easy way to

describe ethical ( and also realistic) veganism: LIVE LIFE WITHOUT KILLING

AND HURTING, BUT NOT AT THE COST OF YOUR OWN LIFE!!
