Guest guest
RESULTS OF FIRST-EVER ZOGBY AMERICA POLL TO GAUGE AMERICAN ATTITUDES ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF ENCOURAGING KIDS TO RESPECT AND PROTECT ANIMALS TO BE RELEASED AT NEWS CONFERENCE ON DECEMBER 2 AT 10:00 A.M. http://www.humanechild2000.org/zpoll.htm POLL REVEALS ANIMAL RIGHTS MESSAGES STRIKING A CHORD WITH MAINSTREAM AMERICA, BUT WORK REMAINS http://www.humanechild2000.org/advisory.htm POLL REVEALS AMERICANS' FICKLE RELATIONSHIP WITH ANIMALS MAY BE HARMFUL TO KIDS http://www.humanechild2000.org/pollpr.htm ZOGBY POLL RESULTS http://www.humanechild2000.org/poll.htm Conclusions 1.More than nine in ten feel that it is important for parents and children to discuss respect for all living creatures, including groups that may usually be perceived as not having much concern for animals like men, those living in rural areas, and those who do not share their homes with animals. 2.The public is clear that harming a companion animal is not acceptable behavior and that personal choices, like becoming a vegetarian, are very appropriate. 3.However, as you are no doubt aware, the public is unsure about their relationship with animals. While on one hand nearly all respondents say it is wrong to harm a neighborhood cat, a sizeable number (38%) do not hold the same view when it comes to frogs in a dissection class. 4.The public is also ambivalent about the use of animals in entertainment. While two in five say they would investigate the living conditions of animals used in an aquarium, two in five also say they would tell their son not to go back if the notion bothered him or that the animals are probably happy in captivity. 5.Sharing their home with animals is no guarantee that people are likely to be more pro-animal than those who do not live with animals. Those with animals are virtually in agreement with those without companion animals on every question. 6.Groups most open to the notion of abuse or misuse of animals are women, African Americans, and Hispanics. But again, the notion that it is important to discuss respect for all living creatures is shared by a sizeable majority of all sub-groups.
