Guest guest
Everyone is welcome to attend this Sunday, June 18, a special event of the Boston Vegetarian Society!! (Free admission) It's our annual outing to the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, MA (next to Natick), with potluck and speaker Steven Wise. (An RSVP is helpful, though not required.) Come and breath in the special atmosphere of this place dedicated to peace and nonviolence, including nonviolence in food production. Explore the beautiful grounds which include the Pacifist Memorial, the Gandhi statue, the Life Experience School, the Meditation Room, Vegetarian Resource Library, and the VeganPeace Animal Sanctuary. This is the home of Emily the Celebrity Cow, who captured hearts around the world when she jumped a five foot fence to escape from a slaughterhouse, endured 40 days of biting cold in the woods eluding recapture, and who was given lifelong sanctuary at the Peace Abbey, now joined by other rescued farm animals of various sizes and temperaments. (You can bring treats for the animals, such as fresh greens, Romaine, parsley, carrots with tops, apples, crackers, a bale of hay!). Meet our generous hosts, Meg and Lewis Randa, founders of the Peace Abbey, and learn of their heroic work to spread peace, vegetarianism, and nonviolence in this world. 11 a.m. -- Bring your favorite dish to share for a potluck meal. Please make it vegan so all can taste (vegetarian with no eggs, dairy, or honey). 1 p.m. -- Our speaker will be celebrated Attorney, Author, and Harvard Law School Professor Steven Wise. The release this year of Steve's ground-breaking book _Rattling the Cage: Toward Legal Rights for Animals_, and his appointment to the faculty of Harvard Law School to teach Animal Rights Law, created an avalanche of media attention. To mention a few, interviews appeared in: Time Magazine, Dateline, NBC Nightly News, National Public Radio's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, The Connection with Christopher Lydon, favorable Publisher's Weekly reviews and a feature piece, CNN's Crossfire, the Boston Globe, Newsday, Washington Post.com, SalonMagazine.com, The Jurist, Court TV, Animal's Magazine, Satya, Voice of America, and while book-touring the U.K, BBC 's Start the Week. Steve Wise will speak on " Why Animals Should Have Legal Rights " . His book will be available for purchase and signing. ---------- Directions: Take Route 9 to Route 27 South.
