Guest guest
Got this one from the Northern California Animal Liberation Team (NCALT): Peta is asking everyone to support the campaign to pressure the Indian government to enforce its own laws regarding the humane transport of cows. The laws provide fairly good protections for the cows, but they are being rampantly broken and ignored at present, even in a country where cows are sacred. Peta is asking for PAPER/fax letters in this instance because they have it on good authority that the Prime Minister is counting each piece of paper mail and evaluating them in his response. Please write/fax yourself and recruit 5 others to write/fax. The addresses are below. Also, please send copies of these letters to Ingrid Newkirk at Peta (you could e-mail her at info@peta-online with an attached copy of copy the body of your letter into the e-mail). Paper copies can be sent to her address, also below. I've included a draft which you can modify or use as is for your own letter. If you want more information (or can stomach the graphic photos) go to the web site at www.peta-online.org. Respected Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of South Block (60 cents postage for this one - don't forget!) New Delhi 110 011 India fax: 011-91-11-301-6857 Indian Ambassador Indian Embassy 2107 Massachusetts Avenue NW Washington, DC 20008 fax: 202-265-4351 Ingrid Newkirk PETA 501 Front Street Norfolk, VA 23510 Dear Prime Minister/Ambassador: I am writing to ask that you PLEASE take action now to enforce the Indian law regarding cattle transport. The laws are not being enforced and cows are suffering miserably as a result: a.. They are strung together with rope pierced through their noses b.. They are packed so tightly into trucks that they gore each other with their horns c.. They are not given water d.. Many suffocate to death e.. Many are crushed under the weight of those who fall on them during the ride f.. Their bones are being broken The law states that: a.. The cattle must be given water b.. Cattle may not be overloaded into trucks c.. Only six can ride in a vehicle d.. The sides of the truck must be padded Please meet with the Indian states right away to develop a plan to enforce the law so that the animals are not abused on their way to slaughter.
