I'm always disappointed when I see vegan recipes for cakes and other sweet

dishes. The only 'vegan' margarine in Australia has vitamin D added. It

doesn't say if it's D3. Also, I don't eat white sugar so I must use raw.

Fortunately, we do have egg replacer. Anyway, I rarely cook sweet things. If

I want a dessert I bake an apple and put a little oats, nuts, and maple

syrup on it. I was overjoyed to find 'Toffuti' in the supermarket earlier

this week and to my dismay, it had sugar in it.

I don't think PETA is approaching the issue in a way that will induce people

to respond positively but I do understand where they're coming from. Both

Mcdonald's (and parents) lie to children about what hamburgers are and how

they are produced. It is they who are 'moulding young minds' into thinking

that killing and eating animals is OK when the average young child, if they

knew, would see it for what it clearly is. Still, I don't see how PETA's

approach will help. No one likes having other people's point of view shoved

into their faces and no one likes being told they are wrong.

Heck I have a lifetime fear of clowns anyway. They've always freaked me out.

No one is perfect and if we all try and take the hard core approach all the

time to the vegan lifestyle many of us will fail. My family balks at veganism

so I am slowly but surely moving them along. Ultimately you are right but

let's encourage steps in the right direction and not discourage by expecting

too much too soon.

Hi I have many recipes for sweets, cakes , cookies, etc , that do not

use margarine or refined sugar. Most use oils and sweeteners such as

rice syrup, maple syrup , things like that. They are from a book called

" Sweet and Natural " by Meredith McCarty. Its over 120 naturally sweet

dairy free desserts. I recommend the book highly. But if you need

anything specific I would be more than happy to help if I can.
