Guest guest
I'm always disappointed when I see vegan recipes for cakes and other sweet dishes. The only 'vegan' margarine in Australia has vitamin D added. It doesn't say if it's D3. I find I can avoid the whole margarine thing by using nut or seed butter, or by using low-fat baking methods. Sunflower seed butter works very well in most baking, sometimes I use tahini (sesame seed butter). One can use peanut butter of course, but only if the peanut flavour will complement the dish. For low-fat baking, one uses the same amount of a fruit puree, either apple sauce, mashed banana or pureed prunes. I find it works just dandy, and the product is usually much lighter. Also, I don't eat white sugar so I must use raw. I use maple syrup for sweetening mostly. Lately, I have been learning about stevia. I don't think PETA is approaching the issue in a way that will induce people to respond positively but I do understand where they're coming from. Both Mcdonald's (and parents) lie to children about what hamburgers are and how they are produced. It is they who are 'moulding young minds' into thinking that killing and eating animals is OK when the average young child, if they knew, would see it for what it clearly is. I feel the same way. I sympathize with the desperation PETA is feeling to have taken such a dramatic move. I think even the negative feedback from the press about it is, in a way, good advertising, because by being defensive about it, the meat-eating press is showing their ignorance. I think it may have some good effects, even though it is a very aggressive tactic. ---------- ---------- Post message: Subscribe: - Un: - List owner: -owner Shortcut URL to this page: /community/
