Guest guest
Soya milk, a viable alternative MUMBAI, JULY 18. The deans of India's elite medical schools want to protect patients from the hazards of cow and buffalo milk but can't get soya milk in sufficient quantity, according to a new study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). The study was prompted by the PCRM president, Dr. Neal Barnard's visits to the top 20 medical colleges late last year. " I heard the same complaint at every institution. We need soya milk, but we can't get it " , says Dr. Barnard. The study is being released during the World Breastfeeding Week, from 1st to 7th August, to highlight the potential health problems to infants, when mothers who breastfeed, consume cow and buffalo milk. Milk proteins, which are difficult for babies to digest, are passed through the breast milk. Infants who are sensitive to milk proteins often suffer from colic, skin reactions, ear infections, diarrhoea, constipation and asthma. Consumption of milk has also been associated with more serious conditions, including Type (T) juvenile diabetes and symptoms similar to autism. http://www.indiaserver.com/thehindu/2000/07/19/stories/0219000m.htm -- Free email services provided by http://www.goodkarmacafe.com Powered by Outblaze
