Re: WIC not offering soy milk or any organic products

Maynard...

We're checking to see what we can do to furnish soy and organic products to

WIC moms.

What could be done to offer soy products and organic food

through WIC, so that these young infants can grow up

and be healthy?

Milk is becoming the major bone of contention in a rancorous debate about

racism in U.S. dietary guidelines. Designed by the Department of

Agriculture, the guidelines form the basis for all public and most

private nutrition programs, including school breakfast and lunch programs,

the food stamp program and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program

for Women, Infants and Children.

I am a part of the Women, Infants and Children program and I was very

disappointed that they do not offer soy milk or any organic products. I

don't usually shop at big chain stores. I like to shop at my co-op or

sometimes whole foods. The problem is these stores have not been allowed in

the W.I.C. program. The products that are part of the W.I.C. program are

more than likely genetically modified. The juices are not really juice,

they taste more like clarified sugar water. They don't offer alternatives

for people who eat alternative diets. W.I.C. is horrible. I guess it helps

the people who don't really know much about the food that they are putting

in their bodies but it's full of junk foods.
